Suzanne Strakosch

After graduating TZ, my studies included a semester at SUNY Farmingdale where I learned I definitely did not want to be a farmer. But before that, I met a man while working on the Clearwater and we married in 1980. He’s the one who loves farming and the reason I attended Farmingdale. He’s the one that saved me from the frustration of college (learning is not my curve) and other nefarious scenarios (don’t ask). He was the oldest of seven siblings, which sounded fun to me, so we joined forces and went for the gold.

While I was wondering what happened to my life, I met a friend who invited me to something called a Prayer Meeting, where people prayed outloud and spoke the name of Jesus. Even though it was way out of my comfort zone, this new experience was my lifeline to personal stability. Prayer in the name of Jesus is powerful. When my metamorphosis was complete, the resulting Freedom-in-Christ became the most  beautiful thing in my life. “Crossing the Jordan” and living in the promised land is not a life of ease; there are still battles everywhere. But our children are grown, we are feeling old, and life is still hard but good!

We live upstate near Albany, NY. Our grandchild count is up to fourteen now—eleven, plus three on the way—which means traveling to several different states to visit them all. The granddaughters are winning at the moment: five boys, six girls, with more to come. The real question is who’s going to do the dishes?

Of the boys born to us, we have an ER doctor (pediatrics), an Army LTC, an Engineer, an Air Force CPT, and an IT computer science guy (he’s handy to have around!).

Of the girls born to us, we have a school teacher, three nurses (two of whom are also busy being wonderful mothers), and one ski instructor who happens to be a phenomenal potter. She’s the baby — what can I say?

I’m enjoying this TZ blast from the past, but my current life keeps waking me up and calling me back to reality.
