Nancy Aitchison Conroy-TZHS Class of 1976
Endless thanks to all those who worked to coordinate this reunion! I’m sorry I missed
the others, I somehow didn’t hear about them, but I’m thrilled to attend this one!
After graduation, I attended a SUNY Ag and Tech school upstate for Floriculture,
remaining in that area working at a florist/greenhouse for about 4 years. The need for
health insurance and better benefits motivated me to move back downstate. I ended up
in Manhattan where I met my husband, and we married in a church near Penn Station in
1986. We lived in NJ for 2 years and then settled in Nyack for the next 30 years, where
we raised our beautiful, adopted daughter and formed many close friendships in the
Nyack community. I went back to school for nursing in 1990 and worked at Pascack
Valley Hospital for 3 years, before transitioning to NYC, where I worked at Beth Israel
and then Cornell/NYP for a total of 27 years. I absolutely loved all my years in nursing.
When my husband retired 3 years ago, we sold our house in Nyack and moved to the
seacoast of New England to be near our daughter and my husband’s family. I continued
working remotely and retired a year ago in December. I wasn’t sure if I would like
retirement, but it’s wonderful! We enjoy our new friendships, experiencing the beauty of
this area and being near the ocean. I love cooking, reading and knitting and soon plan
to do more weaving and quilting. In April of this year, my husband and I will celebrate
our 40 th wedding anniversary.
Life is so good and filled with blessings, though we may encounter challenges along the
way. It’s hard to believe it’s been fifty years since high school graduation. Amazing!
Where did the time go? I’m excited to attend the reunion and eager to see everyone and
hear their life stories.
