Melissa (Huested) Oberrath

Hello classmates!

Although I won’t be attending the reunion, I am enjoying catching up with each of you through this site. Thank you to the committee that is putting this all together. It is a blessing.

After graduating from TZ, I attended SUNY Oswego and got a BS degree in Business Administration with a minor in economics. I married my first husband David and we were both employed by IBM. David and I had a wonderful daughter together – Amy – but unfortunately the relationship ended in divorce.

To make a long story short, I met and married Randy – who was a wonderful husband to me for 33 years. We raised our blended family together – his 3 boys and my daughter. Together, we have 11 grandchildren. In April of 2024, Randy passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus.

During the years that we were together, I became very ill with an autoimmune disease – and was on Social Security disability. Life was very difficult. However, in 2005, I was miraculously healed by the Lord Jesus Christ. As a result of this, Randy and I surrendered our lives to Him. We attended Charis Bible College in Colorado together – and then were sent by the Lord to Durham NC. Here in Durham, we were adjunct
faculty for the Raleigh/Durham satellite campus of Charis Bible College for 7 years. We led students on multiple mission trips to Colombia, South America, and Belize. For many years we had a ministry to the poor and homeless in our area – helping them with provision and housing. In 2015, with the Lord’s leading – we started a church in our home – co-pastoring together. The church grew and now meets in a building that we lease. For more than 10 years, I have had the privilege of being the Senior Pastor of Kingdom Life Church International – pastoring a precious group of people who each have a beautiful heart for God.
My greatest passions are knowing Jesus, teaching the Word of God (the Bible), discipling people and empowering them to live the life they were created for in Him! I am doing exactly what I know God created me for – and it is the most fulfilling life I could imagine. Although I know I will retire from being a pastor one day – it is not in the immediate future. And I know that I will never retire from teaching His Word and loving people for Him.

My daughter, Amy, and her son lived with Randy and me for several years before Randy passed. Amy recently remarried and she and her husband had another child. So, they now have a 17-year-old son and 10-month-old son – and I get to be grandma! We all live in a home we purchased together after Randy passed. We love the Lord, love the church, and feel blessed to be together

My father passed away several years ago – but my mother Shirley Huested is 90 years old and still going strong. She lives in a Senior Independent Living facility just a few miles away from us, and she attends the church – so we all continue to enjoy life together.

Through all the ups and downs of my life – the one thing that I know – is that God is good – and He has been so very good to me. I pray that you all have a wonderful time at the reunion.

Rich Blessings….
