50 years! It definitely doesn’t feel like “just yesterday”. Many of my friends have retired. Not me. I’m no quitter.
After graduation, I attended Cortland State with degrees in Chemistry and Biology. After graduating I worked at the Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory (LDGO) for four years. I loved working there, but it only paid enough to afford Ramen noodles and an occasional pizza with the works. I heard about a nascent wine industry on the eastern end of Long Island and moved out there in 1985. After growing grapes and making wine at several wineries, I settled in at Peconic Bay Vineyards in Cutchogue. I’ve been there 27 years and counting.
I married Deborah Gildersleeve in 1996. She runs a wine shop we own in the village of Greenport. Mention promo code words “Tappan Zee is for me” if you’re in the neighborhood and she just might give you a 20% discount. Don’t delay. Act today.
We have a daughter and son ages 26 and 24 because it won’t be long for payback time when I’m wandering around the neighborhood in my slippers and bathrobe in need of assistance. My artificial hip and two knee surgeries tell me there is no more soccer or hockey on the horizon, but I still enjoy road biking, mountain biking and sailing.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. I hope they give us big name tags.
